Recently, the Iowa Board of Medicine took the following action:
Gregory L. Ingle, D.O., a 67-year-old Iowa-licensed physician who practices family medicine Pella, Iowa, entered into a combined Statement of Charges and Settlement Agreement with the Board on April 15, 2021. The Board alleged that Dr. Ingle’s pain management care to multiple patients fell below minimum acceptable standards. The Board issued Dr. Ingle a Citation and Warning and ordered him to pay a $2,500 civil penalty and complete a Board-approved opioid prescribing course and record keeping course. The Board also placed Dr. Ingle on probation for a period of five years subject to Board monitoring.
Vuong A. Nayima, D.O, a 36-year-old Iowa-licensed physician who practices internal medicine in West Des Moines, Iowa, had a Termination Order issued by the Board on April 15, 2021. On August 28, 2020, Dr. Nayima entered into a combined Statement of Charges and Settlement Agreement with the Board. The Board alleged that Dr. Nayima prescribed controlled substances to his romantic partner and staff in his medical offices without establishing physician-patient relationships or properly charting and documenting his care of the staff. Dr. Nayima self-reported this misconduct to the Board in early 2020. The Board issued Dr. Nayima a Citation and Warning and ordered him to complete a Board-approved professional ethics program and mental health medical management course. On April 15, 2021, the Board determined that Dr. Nayima successfully completed the terms of his Board order and the terms of the order are terminated and his Iowa medical license is returned to its full privileges, free and clear of all restrictions.
Larry J. Standing, D.O, a 56-year-old Iowa-licensed physician who practices general medicine in Cedar Falls, Iowa, had a Termination Order issued by the Board on April 15, 2021. On February 17, 2017, Dr. Standing entered into a combined Statement of Charges and Settlement Agreement with the Board. The Board alleged that Dr. Standing failed to provide appropriate pain management to multiple patients in Cedar Falls, Iowa, between 2011 and 2016. The Board issued Dr. Standing a Citation and Warning and ordered him to pay a $5,000 civil penalty and complete a Board-approved record keeping course. The Board also prohibited Dr. Standing from prescribing, administering or dispensing controlled substances for the treatment of chronic pain under his Iowa medical license and placed him on probation for a period of five years subject to Board monitoring. On April 15, 2021, the Board determined that Dr. Standing has fully complied with the terms of his Board order and the terms of the order are terminated and his Iowa medical license is returned to its full privileges, free and clear of all restrictions.
When appropriate, disciplinary actions are reported to the National Practitioner Data Bank, an electronic repository administered by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration to track adverse license actions.
