Regulatory Plan for FY 2019
The Iowa Board of Medicine annually submits a regulatory plan by August 1 listing each "regulatory action" (each potential rule currently under active consideration or development within the agency excluding those rules that do not have a substantial impact on the legal rights, privileges, or duties of persons) that the agency reasonably expects to issue in proposed or final form in that fiscal year or thereafter. Pursuant to Iowa Code 17A.7(2), the Board of Medicine presents this summary of its comprehensive and ongoing review of the Board’s administrative rules, found under Section 653 of the Iowa Administrative Code. This summary report, which was approved by the Board on July 21, 2017, captures all adopted amendments between January 1, 2012, and June 30, 2017, and identifies potential amendments by topic that may be initiated for adoption by the Board in FY2018 (July 1, 2017, through June 30, 2018). Noticed (Proposed) Rules
ARC 3675C - The proposed amendment for 653 IAC Chapter 13, “Standards of Practice and Principles of Medical Ethics,” relates to the use of medical cannabidiol for patients with a qualifying illness. The proposed rule establishes the process by which the Board of Medicine receives recommendations from the Medical Cannabidiol Board concerning amendments for the list of debilitating medical conditions that could be treated with medical cannabidiol and the form and quantity of the medical cannabidiol. The Board of Medicine approved a Notice of Intended Action during a regularly scheduled meeting on February 16, 2018, and it was published in the Iowa Administrative Bulletin on March 14, 2018.
