The online renewal system is a secure website that only the physician can access. The physician will be guided through a series of screens to allow for a renewal of his/her license. The online renewal system accepts MasterCard and Visa and once the physician has completed all the required screens, the license will automatically be renewed. This option will be available for all physicians that have an expiration date of December 1, 2001 and all expiration dates following that.

You will not be able to access the system more than 75 days before or 60 days after your expiration date.

To make online renewal fast and efficient, please have the following required items available before starting the renewal process:

  • License Number (as found on your renewal notice)
  • Date of Birth
  • MasterCard or Visa
  • Continuing Medical Education Information (Total number of Category 1 hours)
  • If you provide primary care to children or adults you will need the month, day and year of the 2-hour courses that you attended.

Once you begin the renewal process, you must complete the process since the information will not be saved and you will need to start over.

License renewal requires completing the Mandatory Training for Identifying and Reporting Abuse as part of a Category 1 activity or an approved training program. The licensee may utilize Category 1 activity credit received for this training during the license period in which the training occurred to meet continuing education requirements, if the certificate indicates it is category 1 activity.

An approved training program is a training program using a curriculum approved by the abuse education review panel of the Department of Public Health or a training program offered by the Department of Human Services, the Department of Education, an area education agency, a school district, the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, an Iowa college or university, or a similar state agency.

A licensee who regularly provides primary health care to children and dependent adults shall indicate at renewal the completion of a single two hour course of training in child abuse identification and reporting, and dependent adult abuse identification and reporting in the previous five years. This training may be completed through separate 2 hour courses or in one combined two-hour course that includes curricula for identifying and reporting child abuse and dependent adult abuse.
